NOT many 18-year-olds can say they have climbed to Everest Base Camp, never mind embarking on an epic cycle ride across France.
But in the past two years that’s exactly what Taylor Prescott has done.
The eldest son of Steve Prescott has set about building on his dad’s legacy by throwing himself into similar jaw-dropping endurance challenges.
In 2009, Steve, while fighting terminal cancer, was given the honour of delivering the match ball to Wembley Stadium for the Challenge Cup Final between Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves.
This followed the gruelling challenge of taking a group cyclists from Perpignan in the south of France to London.
This year, a decade on from that mission, and six years after the death of his dad, Taylor led a repeat of the challenge – and even placed the match ball at Wembley on August 24 for the cup final between Saints and Warrington.

For his efforts, Carmel College student Taylor was given the shock of his life when he was given a Special Recognition Award sponsored by The Steve Prescott Foundation, the awards his dad helped establish eight years ago.
He said: “I didn’t expect this at all, taking on that challenge this year is easily the hardest thing I’ve ever done, harder than Everest.
“It’s an honour and I hope that my dad would be proud of what I’ve done.”
