THE results for the parish council elections in St Helens have been announced.
Echoing local and parish results across the country, St Helens saw a surge in independents elected.
Rainhill independents, which featured St Helens councillor James Tasker and newly-elected Donna Greaves, claimed the biggest victory, winning every seat on Rainhill Parish Council.
The 14 independents in Rainhill steamrolled the opposition, beating several Labour councillors including St Helens Council leader, Derek Long and former council leader Barrie Grunewald.
St Helens Labour group's former chief whip Joe De'Asha also lost his seat, as did Cllr Trisha Long.
Independents in Bold, which include the green belt campaigner Chris Hughes, won all eight seats contested on Bold Parish Council.
Labour's Jimmy Jackson, Paul Gerrard and Carole Ann Gerrard were also elected.
Green Party candidate David O'Keefe, who was elected to represent Bold at the local elections, also won a seat on parish council.
