WHAT could be the UK’s tiniest tearoom is set to open this month, sitting just eight people.
Florrie’s Tearooms on Ormskirk Street is the dream of Mandy Stanley, 54, who owns Coco’s Bar on Westfield Street.
She was inspired to open the tearoom, which will serve ‘proper’ tea and traditional cakes as well as toasties and English breakfasts, as a child when her gran Florence Stanley would take her out.
Now, her dream has come true and she has named it Florrie’s in memory of her gran and has hung up old pictures and items from St Helens history.
To celebrate the event Mandy invited one of St Helens’ oldest residents to be the first customer which was 103-year-old Lilian Cartledge, who used to own a cafe herself on Bickerstaffe Street back in the day.
Mandy said: “I used to love old fashioned tearooms as a child with my grandma who brought me up so it’s wonderful to finally be able to open my own.
“It’s only small but it’s a family friendly place and I hope St Helens will love it.”
Lilian, who used to live on Rivington Road, added: “It’s a lovely place this and the cake and tea I had was lovely too. There’s a nice feeling in here for such a small space. I’m happy I’ve come, the man here is handsome too so I’ll come again.”
Florrie's is set to open later this month.
