THE swimming pool at Queens Park Health and Fitness will reopen to the public early in the New Year after a lengthy closure for repairs, St Helens Council has confirmed.
The 25-metre, five lane swimming pool has been closed since the beginning of October due to loose and broken tiles at the bottom of the pool, caused by moisture.
Work is underway to replace the tiles which will then need time to dry and cure before the pool can be gradually filled, treated and heated.
A council spokesman said: “Due to the size of the swimming pool, repair work was always likely to be a long process and it was important that the source of the problem was correctly identified prior to work taking place to prevent any future occurrence.
“The swimming pool opened in 2010 and it is important to point out that it is not unusual for damage like this to occur over time.
“The council apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
Scheduled swimming lessons have been moved to Parr Swimming and Fitness Centre, and other pool users have been informed about alternative arrangements.
