FOUR-YEAR-OLD hit and run victim Violet-Grace Youens has received a posthumous award for her "selfless contribution" of organ donation.

Her parents Glenn and Becky Youens have received the Order of St John award which is given to a person who donated their organs and gave the gift of life.

On Facebook Glenn, aged 30, from Eccleston, said: “Today we had the honour of accepting Violet's St Johns award.

“One of my proudest moments as Violet's daddy.

“Never in a million years did I ever think we would be stood there today accepting this award for Violet.

“Today it was acknowledged by not just us but St John's and the NHS what a real superhero Violet is.”

He went on to encourage others to discuss organ donation, something the family decided to do after Violet-Grace death resulting in their daughter saving two lives.

He added: “Maybe it's time to sit down and have the conversation, is organ donation right for you? Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, either way it's definitely time to just let your loved ones know your wishes.

“I can honestly say for us as a family organ donation was definitely the right choice. Violet has saved lives and potentially created life.

“To every other donating family there today it was a pleasure to meet you all and well done on making the decision to donate. All organ donors are superheroes.”
