RUNNER Chelsea Jarvis has her eyes on a bright future on the track.
The 17-year-old from Eccleston recently achieved a highly creditable fifth place in the women’s 800 metre final at the World Youth Games in the Ukraine.
The A-level student battled through the heats to reach the final where she clocked a time of 2min 7secs.
Speaking after receiving her award, Chelsea said: “This means a lot to me.
“I train so hard six times a week, often in cold weather, it means a lot to be recognised and motivates me to keep going.”
She was also quick to thank her parents who have supported her throughout the years financially, including trips up and down the country: “Mum and Dad are amazing.
“They have taken me all over the country and there are times when I have had to travel to London regularly every four to six weeks.
“It costs a lot of money, but they are dead proud of me.
“Hopefully in the future I will compete at the Olympics and just reach my full potential.
“My mum and dad are proud of me and next year I will be going to the United States to study for four years at Florida State University.
“My mum said it’s going to be hard to let me go, but it’s the right thing to do.”
Karate ace Nicole Donoghue and open-water swimmer Emily Gormley were highly commended.
