WHEN three pals burst into a burning flat to save two men, little did they know where that act of heroism would lead them.
Callum Chadwick, Josh Jump and Ethan Chisnall smashed their way into the building in Blackbrook in September after seeing smoke pouring out of a window.
Despite suffering from asthma, Josh draped a sheet over his face as he braved the thick smoke and heat. dragged one man to safety before going back inside after realising another man was still in the flat.
Ethan (13) could not make the event on Friday, but Callum (14) and Josh (13) looked stunned as they made their way to the stage cheered on by an appreciative audience.
When asked if they were scared during the rescue Callum said: “I was really scared but at the end of the day it’s someone’s life.”
After winning OD’s Designer Clothing Young Community Star they said: “We were very surprised when our names were read out. But if we had lost at least it would have been to someone good because all the others were brilliant. But we are proud of ourselves.”
Chris O’ Dea, who sponsored the award, handed the boys vouchers for his clothes store telling them: “I am so proud of you and you should be very proud of yourselves.”
Paisley Kerswell and Beth Cammack were highly commended.
