THE nominees for OD's Community Hero are:
Graham Fenney has worked tirelessly to develop grassroots football and has been instrumental in a range of community projects over the past 30 years.
His most significant achievement came when he led the creation of a new home ground for Rainford Rangers Football Club.
His persistence saw nine acres of farmland in the village converted to pitches, meaning the club has been able to expand from 120 players to more than 250, including 40 girls.
Jill Hall is an inspector in the Special Constabulary – and admirers say she often puts in as many hours as a regular officer.
Her duties include keeping town centre revellers in order and dealing with anti-social behaviour.
She is also a key organiser of community events.
Ernest Stockley has been nominated for transforming a ‘concrete slab’ into a communal garden for residents and children to enjoy in a Thatto Heath community.
He made seating, plant pots and containers to brighten up the community – and even placed a trampoline for youngsters to play on.
His efforts should be much appreciated by people of all ages.
