OLLIE’S PICK OF THE WEEK: Sigur Ros - Kveikur
ICELANDIC experimentalists Sigur Ros are back with their magnificent seventh studio album.
Famed for being one of the few foreign-speaking bands to break into the British music scene, Sigur Ros’ alternative style combines classical and contemporary music to create a unique sound.
New record Kveikur is a stunning follow-up to last year’s release. Proving the band have more and more creative ability, the album consists of the signature Sigur Ros sound while continuing to push the boundaries of alternative music.
Ísjaki is undeniably one of the strongest tracks on the album. Driven by the chilling vocal ability of singer Jonsi and the heavily distorted instrumental, the track is eerie, spin-tingling and emotional.
Closing track Var consists of a beautiful piano melody which summarises the ambient nature of the record. Nature is the band’s biggest influence and that influence comes across incredibly on this track.
A typical Sigur Ros album. Beautiful. Chilling. Uplifting!
