PICK OF THE WEEK:
Suede - Bloodsports
BACK with their first album since 2002, Suede’s Bloodsports is a brilliant addition to 2013’s fast-growing catalogue of great guitar music.
Opening track Barriers pays homage to the band’s signature alternative style and combines distorted riffs and eerie vocals.
The distortion continues throughout the record, as tracks such as Sometimes I Feel I’ll Float Away and Sabotage, experiment heavily with beautifully discomforting bluesy melodies.
Frontman Brett Anderson’s experience is clear throughout Bloodsports. The 11 years between albums has provided time for the band to mature, proving that over two decades in the industry is artistically beneficial.
The album closes with Faultlines, arguably the strongest four minutes on the record. Incorporating a melodic piano beat with the heavily distorted sound, it creates a chilling, truly amazing juxtaposition.
Hats off to Suede, they’ve returned in majestic form...
