Season best for Heather

SATURDAY saw the Northern Cross Country Championships take place at the Camp Hill Estate in North Yorkshire.

Sutton athletes were met with a gruelling course of thick mud which zapped the legs.

First to race was Lilly Birkett in the U13 race enjoying her first Northern Championships.

Next up was the U17 men with Charlie Roberts in 28th and Micheal Brusslles 124th. Gabrial Mullen and Will Vose then took on the U13 Boys race with Micheal Dobson the sole club entry in the U15 Boys race.

The U15 girls team saw Lucy Clitheroe come home first for the club followed by her team mates of Taylor Massey and Jessica Bairstow.

Jade Smith was 3rd Merseyside athlete home in the Senior Women’s race.

And the Senior Men saw a full team compete led by Jon-Jo Doherty (53rd) and followed home by David Twigg (241st), Andrew Wislon (289th), Chris Birkett (333rd), Jake Healy (380th) and Ian Roberts (401st) all great running in the 584 strong field.

Closer to home on Saturday morning at the Warrington Trail 5 Mile at Colliers Moss Matt Blake finished in a great 10th place over the testing course, with Andrew O’Connor making his return from injury with a great run in 43rd.

On Sunday, Luca Noonan and Heather Drillingcourt headed to the indoor track at Manchester’s Sport City, to compete over the 60m sprint.

Luca finished 2nd in his race with a PB in 7.52. While Heather achieved a seasons best with a time of 8.44.
