Michael Smith and Dave Chisnall march into World quarters

ST HELENS arrows-aces Michael Smith and Dave Chisnall have both blasted their way through to Saturday's quarter finals in the William Hill World Darts Championships after impressive fourth round wins.

Smith will now take on Luke Humphries, conqueror of last year's champion Rob Cross, in Saturday night's last eight tussle.

Chisnall, meanwhile, will face number four seed Gary Anderson as he searches for a place in the semi-final at the Alexandra Palace showpiece.

Number 10 ranked Smith defeated Devon's Ryan Searle after an emphatic performance that at one stage was unplayable.

Smith coasted to a 3-0 lead before a a tight fourth set saw him miss two darts to whitewash Searle, allowing the underdog to peg one back.

But the Clock Face-based thrower produced the goods in a tight fifth leg, checking out on 106 to clinch it 4-1,

Smith said: "I started slow but took my chances.

" I thought I'd blown it in the fourth set, especially after the third set.

"I showed a bit of bottle and a bit of class for the set to win the match.

"I still believe I can win this title and that trophy is coming to my wedding and will be sat with me on the top table."

Chisnall too, was on song, as he scored an emphatic 4-0 win over Jamie Lewis to go through to the last eight for only the second time.

He said: "In the first set I went two legs down, but I thought just carry on playing - and I did. I hit a 10-darter to win the last set and cruised on from there.

"I was a bit sloppy in the third set but I got the job done."

Chisnall now faces Anderson in a repeat of the classic from two years ago, in which the Scot triumphed 5-3.

The tournament final is on New Year's Day at London's Alexandra Palace.
