Ex-Commonwealth gold medallist Owen Livesey joins Super League club

FORMER Commonwealth Games judo gold medallist Owen Livesey has returned to rugby league.

Livesey, who reached the elite level in judo after choosing the sport over the 13-man code, has joined Hull KR as their assistant strength and conditioning coach and wrestle coach.

The 27-year-old, who came through the SKK Judo Club, won Commonwealth Gold in Glasgow in 2014.

A former Saints Junior, who toured Australia with the Academy, Livesey never lost his affection for rugby league later had a spell at Pilkington Recs and trialled with Widnes Vikings where he was praised by then coach Denis Betts.

In the past he has helped players like Ashton Sims, when he was at Warrington, work on their wrestle technique.

Livesey said: "I am glad to be back and want to stay in rugby now."
