Thatto Heath Women continue to progress

PLAYING only their third game together and again kicking off without substitutes, the girls from Close Street put in a sterling defensive stint once again despite finishing on the losing side.

It was a bleak afternoon as the women travelled to Huddersfield to play a Lindley swifts team dotted with superleague talent but both sides lifted spirits with and without the ball.

Strong carries from Dobson, O'Dowd and opposition's player of the match Chloe Hammond repeatedly turned defence into attack and as the game progressed the away team impressed with some nice passing play.

After going behind after 15 minutes Thatto pressed and try by hooker Emily Carlisle, converted by O'Dowd levelled things.

After the break one or two knocks to the girls took their toll and the Swifts extended their lead but a further score by Meg Garvey brought the team to within a few points. Eventually as in the two previous matches late tries flattered the opponents but great optimism to bring home over the Pennines.

Next Sunday Thatto Heath women play South Leeds Spartans in the cup, again away.
