St Helens quartet in draw for William Hill World Darts Championships

REJUVENATED St Helens darter Alan Tabern will face number one seed Michael van Gerwen in round two of the 2018/2019 William Hill World Darts Championship, provided he beats Australian qualifier Raymond Smith in the opener.

Tabern joins fellow St Helens darters Michael Smith, Dave Chisnall and Stephen Bunting in the prestigious £2.5million tournament which runs from December 13-January 1.

Under the new, expanded format, the top 32 players from the PDC Order of Merit are seeded and enter at the second round stage, there 10th seed Michael Smith will play Ron Meulenkamp or Diogo Portela, Chisnall, seeded 12, will play either Josh Payne or Jeff Smith and Bunting, 18, will take on either Luke Humphries or Adam Hunt.

The first round will feature 32 qualifiers from the ProTour Order of Merit, including Tabern, based on prize money won across 41 non-televised events in 2018, and 32 international qualifiers.
