Tom impresses at Sefton Park trials

LAST weekend saw a number of St Helens Sutton A.C. athletes take on road, trail and cross-country.

First off was Jade Smith racing at the final Power of 5k race of the year in Lancaster where she again smashed her PB by over 10 seconds running 19:38 and finished first woman home and 6th overall.

Saturday then saw the return of the UK Cross Country Challenge and European Trials to Liverpool’s Sefton Park and St Helens Sutton were out in force. In the early races for both the U11 Girls and Boys, we had a great team of Matilda Holloway, Leah Taylor, and Nicole Anders, while the boys where represented by Luke Wilson and Will Vose, and first-time racing duo of Ethan and Elijah Colley.

In the U13 Boys Joseph Colley also had a fantastic run. Later in the U17 Boys race Charlie Roberts had a great performance against some of the best in the country finishing just over a minute behind the winner (18:50)

In the afternoon the seniors set off with Louise Johnson (37:21) being the sole representative in the women’s race, after a missing racing chip sadly caused Amy Corfield to be disqualified.

In the senior men’s’ race Sutton had it’s strongest turnout for years all led home by the in form Tom Griffiths (30:08) who finished 56th and 3rd Merseyside runner.

Next back was Jon-Jo Doherty (32:49), Dave Twigg (34:20), Andy Wilson (35:38), Steve Anders (36:55), John Greenall (37:07), Will Beesley (39:08), Leon Hill (39:40), Chris Taylor (39:40), Ian Roberts (40:02), Barry Graney (40:13), Andy O’Connor (45:14 and Greg Carns (46:48).
