Record-breaking Jon-Jo Doherty hot foots it to complete the Dream Trail race double

ST HELENS Sutton A.C. hosted their annual event ‘The Dream Trail Races’ which take in the scenic trails and hills of Sutton Manor Park.

This year saw the biggest entry list yet, with more than 260 runners set to compete.

First off was the 5km, which saw St. Helens Strider and second claim Sutton member Jon-Jo Doherty retain his winner title from last year and break his own course record by well over 20 seconds. He was followed home by Jamie Ford of Liverpool Harriers, and Will Kozer of Widnes Running Club.

The women’s race was won by Sale Harrier, Zoe Gmerek, followed by Sutton’s own Jade Smith and St. Helens Striders Ann Johnson.

In the 10km Doherty managed to repeat his double win of 2017, with Joe Ford, Jamie’s older brother chasing him down for second, followed by St. Helens Striders Peter Fairclough. In the Ladies race Wigan Harrier, Danielle Brearton won, followed by Sutton’s Sonya Monaghan, and Widnes’ Marina Maxwell.

At the final Cheshire league of the season, Jade Smith also competed at the Podium 5k in Barrowford on Monday missing her PB by 7 seconds with 21:27, which she then disappointed by that performance corrected on Friday night in Lancaster at the Powerof5k race, where she ran 20:26.
