IT was a week for new heroes aplenty at St Helens Tri with standout performances to remember.

Dean Golba set the ball rolling on Tuesday evening at the Rainford time trial by placing 7th as he set a time of 22:32, lowering his previous PB by over a minute.

Three days later it was the turn of Mark Turner to star on the world stage as he participated in the ITU Duathlon World Championships and repeated last year's 10th place while also being third GB athlete home.

On Sunday Paul Austin performed brilliantly at the Derwent 1 Mile Swim to crack the top 50 in 26:21, while Carole James was second in the F50-54 division at the Deva Divas triathlon in Chester.

However the most remarkable story came from the inspirational Aaron Reading who made a heartening comeback from illness at the Griffin Grind 5-mile race, a gritty performance lifting him into the top 200.
