THE karate world descended on Dundee last week for the seventh WUKF world championships with over 40 countries being represented including Brazil and USA and over 2000 competitors taking part.

Ellie Bickerstaffe, 19, from Haydock - a second dan black belt competing for AMA Karate - won two golds and one silver in kumite individual and team fighting.

She also finished a creditable sixth place in kata behind a strong international field.

Meanwhile, there was success for the Mullins sisters from Haydock English Martyrs School.

Keira, aged 11, won gold to add to the European medals she won last year.

Her younger sister Isla, 7, won bronze. Isla holds two silver European medals from 2017.

Both train at Rising Sun Karate.
