Emily Littler wins gold at British Gymnastics Championships

HARD work training in the gym has paid off for nine-year-old Emily Littler who, alongside partner Joe Carney, has won won gold medal at the British Gymnastics Championships.

The duo won the grade 3, mixed pairs event in the Acrobatic NDP Finals at Fenton Manor Sports Complex, Stoke.

Emily, who trains at Seagulls gym in Ashton four times a week, was representing the north west in the finals having won the regional qualifier.

And once in the final the Garswood Primary school pupil and partner Joe, aged 12, had to compete against 10 other pairs to take top spot

Emily took up the sport three years ago and has been at Seagulls since that time.

She trains - including her tumbling - for 15 hours a week at the gym - four days a week.

Emily's dad Tony said: "She has won other competitions but this is the biggest one so far.

"It is quite a big deal winning this and my daughter is as shocked as anyone.

"But we are very proud."
