Jasmin selected for karate world championships

RAINHILL Karate Club youngster Jasmin Thomas has been selected to compete at the 7th WUKF World championships in Dundee next month.

The 11-year-old has been selected to represent the SSKA England team in the prestigious tournament in Scotland on June 14-17.

She will form part of a 22-strong squad and will be part of a 4,000 athletes, supporters, coaches and official from across the world descended upon the north eastern Scottish city.

Jasmin will be competing in kata (set moves routine) and kumite (fighting).

Instructor sensei Darron McQuillan, who is a 4th dan black belt/ SSKA assistant coach who runs Rainhill Karate Club, said: "When Jasmin started karate two years ago I saw the potential in her.

"So I asked her if she would like to compete all over the country.

"Jasmin is a very focused and determined karateka, who I have seen grow and she will continue to do so."

Rainhill Karate Club train at St Anne's Millennium Centre on Monday and Wednesday.
