St Helens Sutton's Matt Crehan wins Rainford 10k

St Helens Sutton's Matt Crehan wins Rainford 10k

IT was a fairly quiet week for St Helens Sutton athletes as the winter weather begins to roll in and the cross country season begins to loom.

But it was at a local event, the Rainford 10k, that eight Sutton athletes took on the roads and trails.

First home for Sutton and a dominant winner of the race was Matt Crehan (34:08), beginning to come back into form after two months out due to injury, finishing just under a minute ahead of the rest of the field.

Next back was Ste Anders in 6th overall (36:29), currently building up his mileage as he eyes a spring marathon. First lady home for Sutton, and just missing out on a top three position in the ladies race was, Amy Corfield, 4th, (43:13).

Next back was Will Beesley (43:55), followed by his sister Rachel, (who due to errors with the timing chips, at time of print actual time and position are unknown).

The Sutton team was rounded out by with some fantastic performances by a number of veteran athletes, Catherine Leather (1:00.11), Jane Ashcroft (1:00.52), and Jane Makin (1:21.34).

Last week also saw Sutton’s new committee elected with Matt Crehan as Chairman, Julia Hayes as Secretary, and Chris Causer as Treasurer.
