PHIL Ellison returned to competing for St Helens Tri ahead of the winter cross country season with a resounding win at the Widnes Parkrun on Saturday in a time of 17:36 while at Victoria Park in St Helens Emma Austin was first junior home.

On the same day Charlie Stirrup's excellent season continued as he took part in the Coniston one way swim of 5.25 miles and finished in 2 hours 28 minutes which placed him fourth in his age group.

The club enjoyed success despite having to contend with tough conditions at the Wigan 10k on the Sunday morning, as Kevin Dunbar cracked the top 100 in a time of 40:38 just 48 seconds ahead of teammate David Gaskell while Diane Taktak and Helen Broderick finished close together, as both beat the 54 minute mark and both achieved new PB's.
