Judo World Championship update on the Livesey sisters

ST HELENS judoka Bekky Livesey was knocked out in the opening round of her World Championship bout in Budapest on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old, who is representing Great Britain in the tournament along with her sister Amy, got off to a solid start against world ranked number 20 Severa Nishanbayera.

Livesey got a waza-ari on the board in the first minute of the -57kg bout.

But the Kazakh fighter hit back straight away and with her next attack threw Livesey for waza-ari and went straight for the hold down to win by ippon.

Meanwhile Amy has got her World Championship debut off to a good start.

After a cagey opening against Poland's Karolina Talach, great work on the ground saw her apply the strangle and force the tap to progress into round two.
