300 runners take part in St Helens Dream Trail Races

SUNDAY saw nearly 300 runners from across the borough and the surrounding areas take on their toughest challenge yet - the St Helens Dream Trail Races.

Taking in the scenic Sutton Manor, athletes chose to challenge themselves over the testing 5km or gruelling 10km courses, and some mad souls even took on both.

But with the sun shining and a fantastic team of smiling volunteers both races went ahead in superb style.

The first race of the day was the 5km, with the men’s race being won by local St Helens Striders hero Jon-Jo Doherty, while St Helens Sutton athlete Rachel Beesley won the women’s race.

St Helens-Sutton also took the team prize with an injured Matt Crehan walking across the line in second, followed by Beesley in (9th overall) and Amy Corfield as third lady and 11th overall.

Next up was the monster 10km course taking in eight hills challenging hills, but one of those mad enough to run the double was 5km winner Doherty, who in a fantastic sprint finish with Jay Walker, clinched his second win of the day.

Emma Sharples from Swinton Running Club took the women’s race.

And Kirby Milers took the team win.
