Livesey sisters ready for the Judo World Championships

LIVESEY sisters Bekky and Amy make their World Championships debut together next week in Budapest, Hungary with the prestigious tournament taking place between 28 August to 3 September.

The duo from Haresfinch have earned their places off the back of strong performances over the last 12 months including Grand Slam and Grand Prix medals.

The SKK members are following in the footsteps of Commonwealth Gold medallist brother Owen in taking part in major global championships.

Younger sister Bekky, who fights in the -57kg category, made her debut at this year’s European Championships in Poland where she finished seventh as well as winning bronze at the Antalya Grand Prix in Turkey.

Bekky said: “I am really excited. It is my first World Championships and first real major event and I am looking forward to competing.

“My preparation could not have gone any better really. I have been to Mongolia, Germany and the Netherlands. I feel ready now.

“It is really special to be going there with Amy.

" You don’t see many World Championships with sisters side by side.

“It is her first World Championships too so that so for us to go together is really exciting.

“I want to go out and give my best performance and secondly come home with a medal if I possibly can.”

Amy, who is in the -63kg class, won her first Grand Slam medal with bronze in Yekaterinburg in May and she followed up with a silver at the Cancun Grand Prix in June.

These two results have seen her move up into her current world ranking of eight.

Amy said: “I can’t wait and all my family is going out watching, and my coach from home is going out too.

“It has been a tough training camp – it has been hard, but hopefully it can pay off.

“I want to go out there and give a good performance, the icing on the cake would be a medal.

“It is really good to be doing first World Championships with Bekky.”

Bekky fights on Wednesday 30 August with Amy in action a day later on Thursday 31 August.
