ST HELENS Sutton AC ace Gemma Connolly was the third woman to finish Sunday's ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon.

She was first home in the over 35 veterans category in a personal best time of 2:46.43.

Connolly set out to reclaim her marathon PB after it had been taken away due to the Manchester course coming up short in previous years, but this year's course is newly ratified.

Over at Warrington Athletics Club's Track and Field Open Meeting, Darren Scott began his season with a victory over the 400m hurdles in 60 seconds flat.

Kelly Hamilton made her track debut over one of the most gruelling distances, the 800m, mixing both speed and endurance to clock 2:31.78.
