AFFTER winning eight games on the run beating every team in the division in doing so it was going to need to be a good team to take points from St Helens Men's hockey.

Northern were very much that team and made St Helens work really hard to retain their unbeaten record.

Northern by their own admission had a number of players who were until recently playing Division 1 hockey came and gave St Helens as tough a game as they have had.

Winning eight in a row has been pleasing but it's safe to say that the spirit and effort shown is as pleasing as anything they have done all season. Twice they came from behind to stay in the game and it was as enjoyable a game that a neutral will see.

Goal scorers were Paul Horton 2, Lewis Robinson 2, Mike Maloney and Phil Travis.
