Fray's marathon test of endurance

CHRIS Fray began the St Helens Striders week of racing by taking part in an endurance event that saw competitors completing three marathons in three days.

The three marathons took Fray from Worsley in Manchester on Monday, finishing at Preston Brook marina on Wednesday.

On Tuesday St Helens Striders took part in the Mystery 5k in Mystery Park, Liverpool. The first Strider over the finish line was Shaun Phoenix in 17:58 followed by Mark Riley in 20:18, David Navis in 21:11 and Carol Foster in 23:33.

Striders returned to Liverpool on Sunday to take part in the Liverpool Tunnel 10K, running through one of Liverpools legendary tunnels under the Mersey, ending in New Brighton. Eric Ranson came home first for the Striders in 42:21 followed by Danny Fegan in 42:18, Rachel Tickle in 57:55, Colin Leyland in 59:44 and Sarah Charlton in 1:05:27.

Meanwhile in Leigh Striders supported Race Director Katie Taggart taking place in the Flash in the Park 10k. Rachael Fairclough was first Strider and first lady finishing in 41:47, followed by Neil Hunter in 44:04, Ian Wright in 44:26, Kevin Cairns in 45:57.

Kylie Maguire was third lady to finish, completing the course in 46:15 followed by Laura Buckley in 49:07, Sharon O’Connell in 53:01, Sue Heaps in 53:19, Gary Spriggs in 54:17, Nicola Howarth in 55:31, Carol Foster in 55:32, Aimee Hill in 1:02:21, Amanda Coogan in 1:02:57, with Bonnie Mansell and Anthony Jones finishing together in 1:19:14.
