A busy weekend for St Helens Sutton runners

IT was a busy weekend for St Helens Sutton A.C.’s Greg Williams, running two 10km road races on consecutive days.

On the Saturday he ran in the Jacob’s Leg It 10k race which starts and finishes at Edge Hill University and takes the runners through the neighbouring country lanes. Greg finished a creditable 6th in 38 min.03 secs. but had to give best to club mate Steve Anders who finished third with the fine time of 35 min.47 secs.

Also running was V50 veteran John Greenall whose time of 38 min.46 secs earned him ninth place.

On the Sunday Williams’s second race was in the better supported Liverpool Spring 10k which starts and finishes in Sefton Park.

Here he ran a faster time, finishing in 37 min.11 secs which was only good enough in this field for 41st place.

The club had one other male competitor in the event, Ian Hayburn (V45) who ran 37 min.24 secs.

Behind them were a number of the club’s ladies, first of whom was Rachel Beesley who ran a personal best time of 45 min.41 secs.

Amy Corfield ran 49 min.33 secs, Sonya Monaghan (W45) ran 50 min.57 secs, Rachel Wilcock ran a season’s best time of 52 min.23 secs, Colette Flaherty (W40) ran one second slower than Wilcock and Susan Haden (V40) ran 54 min.27 secs.
