The first week of league fixtures got under way with the Pilkington Club’s new team, Centurions, at home to Wild Cats on Monday and, losing the toss, were asked to bat. They posted a respectable score of 6 from 45 balls. The only full rounder came from captain, Carole Foster, who also added two ½’s: the other ½’s were added by Sue Brunt; Vicky Meyers (2); Sally Sheil; Vicky Mousdell (3) and Allie Haggerty.

In reply Cats faced 61 balls and scored 9 with full rounders from Natalie Cotham who also scored a ½; Vikki Smith (2) who was also awarded a ½ for obstruction; and Julie Ryan who was also awarded two ½’s for no-balls. Other ½’s came from Michelle Evans; Lauren O’Hara; Alison Platt; Sara McManus (2 including one for no-balls) and Lyn Bradshaw for no-balls.

In their second innings, Centurions faced 36 balls but were held to a ½ from Carole to give Cats victory 9:6½.

The following evening saw a derby match at Ruskin Drive with Crusaders taking on Vikings. They lost the toss, were asked to bat and faced 31 balls, posting 6 with Nic Ericson & Olivia Jolley scoring the only full rounders and both adding a ½ . The other ½’s came from Jen Graham and Chloe Plunkett (3 each).

Despite losing four batters on their first attempt, Vikings (facing a total of 38 balls) equalled the score with full rounders from Carolyn Slater & Laura Finnigan who also scored two ½’s each: remaining ½’s came from Caitlin Scott (2); Mel Taylor and Jackie Kenny.

In their second innings, Crusaders face 25 balls, added 4½ with Julie Murray scoring the only full rounder supplemented with three ½’s; the other ½’s came from Jen; Olivia and Megan Lawrenson (2).

Vikings reached their target of 5 in just 20 balls with a full rounder each from Nic Lethbridge who also scored a ½ & Di Thomas with other ½’s from Julie Scott; Rachel Irwin (2); Di Kenny & Mel Taylor.
