FOUR St Helens Striders made their way to Askham in the Lake District on Saturday to take part in the Grand Day Out, a charity event covering 10  snowy miles through the Lakes in aid of Cumbrian flood victims.

They even managed to have a chat with Granada Reports about working together as a community.

In the race itself Kevin Brennan finished in 1:23:38 followed by Simon Poole in 2:08:46, and Victoria Kehoe and Debbie Hill finishing together in 2:38:06.

All agreed it was indeed a grand day out.

Meanwhile on Saturday evening three St Helens Striders took on the Rivington 10k Nightrunner held at Rivington Pike, Lancashire.

The three runners faced icy conditions and snow as the race went on.

Gary Spriggs was the first Strider to finish, followed by Ruth Besford and Anita Hall who finished with a flourish in the falling snow.

On Sunday morning 14 Striders braved the elements to make their way over to Helsby in Cheshire to take part in the Four Villages Half marathon.

Kevin Brennan came in first for the Striders in 1:22:21 followed by Chris Reid in 1:35:15, Danny Fegan in 1:36:29, Martin Ballard in 1:39:08, Les Abbott in 1:43:02, Alex Abbott in 1:49:39, Gemma Webster in 1:49:19, Paul Hargate in 1:50:24, Joanne Jackson in 1:55:19, Katie Taggart in 1:56:09, Rachel Tickle in 1:59:42, Natalie Duckworth in 2:00:39 with Michael Brunt and Aimee Hill finishing together in 2:42:24.
