Striders run Rainford 10k in perfect conditions

RIVINGTON Pike was the location for a chilly start to St Helens Striders' weekend of racing.

Taking part in the Rivington Trail 13 were Paddy and Gill Lee, Andrea Hill Jones and Jason Jones.

Paddy Lee was first home in 1.49 followed by Gill Lee 1.57, Andrea Hill-Jones and Jason Jones both finished in 2.33.

Warmer weather on Sunday saw near perfect road racing conditions for the Rainford 10k road race.

First Strider home was Jonjo Doherty 37.21 followed by Kevin Brennan 38.12, Danny Fegan 42.38, Antony Cheers 44.26, Dave Navis 44.31, Mark Crossfield 44.39, Gill Lee 44.53 and 3rd female overall, Tony Padmore 46.06, Laura Buckley 46.21, Tony Dagnall 46.21, Kyle Maguire 47.42, Karl Allender 48.54, John Lingard 49.22, Gemma Webster 49.33, Tom Towey 50.22, Joanne Jackson 50.24, Hayley Watson 51.32, Colin Wilson 52.08, Peter Bennett 52.17, Paul Carr 55.35, Colin Leyland 56.24, Louise Padmore 1.00.20, Jackie Dobson 1.01.59, Rachel Tickle 1.01.59 and Tracy Jones 1.02.34.

Not far away at the Ormskirk 10k Anthony Horsfall completed the course in 45.12, Les Abbott 45.22 and Alex Abbott 49.23. Over in Chester Chris Reid finished the Chester Marathon in 3.19.30 and Angela Jones completed her first ever marathon in 5.25.29.

Elsewhere over the weekend Paul Demore gave a credible performance in the Merseyvend 5k at Halewood finishing in 19.09. Gary Spriggs, Ruth Besford and Anita Hall completed the gruelling 35 mile Ripon Round Trail Ultra Marathon in North Yorks and finally in Cumbria Rachael Fairclough, Peter Fairclough, Debs Hill and Matthew Swan ran the Lakeland Trails Coniston 15k trail race.
