Striders deliver bests

ST HELENS Striders continued a string of strong summer performances with a host of personal best times in races over the past week.

Ian Wright and Kevin Monaghan travelled to the Isle of Mull in Scotland to complete the Mull half marathon.

Faced with a strong head wind, Monaghan completed the course in a PB of 1:30:56 and Wright in 1:49:26.

Six Striders attended the MerseyVend 5km flat-free course hosted by Knowlsey Harriers.

Paul Demore was the first strider home in 19:28, chased by Monaghan with 19:48 and Rachael Fishwick was the first Striders’ lady home, placing her third lady overall in a new PB of 20:29.

April Morgan was closely behind in 20:50 as Carol Foster made a welcome return in 25:16 and Nicola Howarth in 25:46.

Morgan’s form continued with a PB of 20:32 at the mystery 5km in Wavertree before a 1:09:15 at the Warford 10 knocked nearly three minutes off her previous PB.

Monaghan was the first Strider home in the final of four Charley races, completing the 4.4mile trail in 28:33.

He was followed by Gary Spriggs, 30:43, Pauline Horsfall as the first v55 in 31:55 and Fishwick, 31:25.

Chris Falls, 32:36, trumped Mike Dodd, 32:38, to the line, followed by David Baxter, 34:35, Jo Jackson, 35:06, Dave Navis, 36:08, and Elaine Parry, 36:35.
