Personal best half marathon time in scorching heat
ST HELENS Striders turned out in force to tackle the third of a four-race series at Chorley.
First to finish the 4.4 mile course in Astley Park was Kevin Monaghan in 28:19, supported by Danny Fegan in 28:47.
Rachael Fishwick led the ladies home in 29:55, with Gary Spriggs hot on her heels in 29:56.
Tony Horsfall was next in 30:08, with Chris Falls in 30:25.
Julie Pennington was first in the v45 category with 30:48, chased in by David Navis in 31:38 and the first v55 runner Pauline Horsfall in 31:45.
Ian Wright finished in a strong 31:45, with Simon Poole in 31:59.
Jo Jackson was the next lady in 35:33, with Ruth Besford in 36:30.
Gary Ward completed the course in 36:54, with Donna Halsall in 37:18 and Becky McKenna 38:04.
Jenny Burrows claimed a new personal best of 38:35, while Debbie Hill and Mike Brunt finished together in 43:59.
Elsewhere, Andi Hill Jones and Jen Laurence took part in the Birchwood Ladies 5k, finishing in 25:58 and 24:41 respectively.
On Sunday, the Striders took part in the Southport Half Marathon in very warm conditions.
The newly established road race attracted nearly 700 runners.
Rachael Fishwick was first to finish in a time of 1:41:35.
She was chased in by Kevin Monaghan in 1:42:18.
Chris Falls was next in 1:49:39, with Jenny Laurence battling the heat in 1:56:48.
Charley Ward completed the course in 2:02:19, with Anita Hall making a welcome return to long distance in 2:10:24.
Andi and Jason Hill Jones wrapped up the contingent, with the time of 2:29:19 being a new personal best for Jason despite the scorching heat!
