THE Star understands that powerhouse packman Shaun Magennis is having to call time on his injury ravaged career.
The 23-year-old mobile forward forced his way into the first team panel two years ago after spending 19 months on the sidelines with a serious leg injury.
He immediately caught the eye, with former England coach John Kear commenting on Magennis’ mobility and ability to get the ball out of the tackle.
Although the former Blackbrook junior has bravely fought back from a succession of knocks to get himself back on to the pitch, the Star understands that the cumulative effect of yet another injury is a blow too far.
Saints are likely to promote a young forward from within the camp, rather than bring in a replacement from outside.
