A BUSY motorway slip road was closed this afternoon, Friday, after a lorry burst into flames.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service says it was called to a large fire involving a heavy goods vehicle on the M6 at 2.51pm.
The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway at junction 22 for Winwick and Newton-le-Willows.
Three fire engines from Warrington, Birchwood and Poynton fire stations rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the blaze.
On arrival, crews found that the lorry was ‘well alight’ and used two hose reels to extinguish the flames.
The temperature of the vehicle was monitored by firefighters and the slip road was closed while the incident was dealt with by Cheshire Police.
