WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our St Helens Star Camera Club group.
This week, we’re looking at Susan Arnold’s favourite photographs.
Susan, who lives in Newton-le-willows, started taking photographs when she was a child.
She enjoys walking along Sankey canal and trying to spot often elusive wildlife, especially foxes and mink.
When and why did you take up photography?
I’ve always had an interest in art and photography from being very young and my interest in local photography has grown over the past 15 years. We are so lucky to have so many beautiful open spaces to walk and enjoy the wildlife as well as places of historic interest.
What do you love about taking pictures?
I try to capture the ever-changing seasonal wildlife where I live.
Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?
My favourite place to take photographs is the Sankey Canal in Newton-le-willows. I take my camera on all my walks and each visit always captures something new and interesting. I love to share my photos with our community especially those who find it difficult to get out and about.
What is your favourite subject matter and why?
I really enjoy doing outside photo shoots for family and friends as they not only create magical family moments that last forever but are also extremely interesting and great fun.
What do you enjoy about being part of our Camera Club on Facebook?
It’s interesting to be part of St Helens Star Camera Club as there are so many talented photographers and wonderful images submitted every day. It’s great to see other members’ work and their style of photography.
If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?
I would love to photograph the local fox and mink but they haven’t been around when I’ve been on a walk. One day I will manage to get a photo! I have been lucky enough to photograph kingfishers and kestrels on the Newton stretch of the canal.
