POLICE are still hunting for a knifeman after an 18-year-old was stabbed to the head and back in what was believed to be a "targeted attack".

A police cordon was put in place around a property after the stabbing on Elephant Lane, Thatto Heath last Thursday afternoon (September 19).

Police and ambulance attended the scene and the 18-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are still appealing for information after the stabbing.

Emergency services attended after police received a report at around midday that an 18-year-old had been stabbed by another man to the head and back.

The offender is described as small in height, with blond hair and wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a green and grey top.

It is believed he left on foot with a woman described as small in height, with blonde curly hair and wearing a grey jacket.

Enquiries are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances and patrols remain in the area and police are still seeking for any CCTV footage which may help with the investigation.

Residents reported their shock at the incident after seeing the police presence on the road since early this afternoon.

One said: "I've seen the police here since around midday. I heard someone has been stabbed. It's shocking, awful."

After the stabbing, Detective Inspector Tony O'Brien said: “The investigation is in its very early stages although at this stage, it is believed to be a targeted attack. I would ask anyone with information on this incident, which occurred in a busy area in broad daylight, to please contact us.

“You may have witnessed the incident, people making off from the scene, or have CCTV or dashcam footage from Elephant Lane or the surrounding areas and I would urge anyone with information to please get in touch.

“To use a knife is simply reckless and can result in fatal consequences. Anyone who carries a weapon in public risks ruining not only the life of their victim, but their own life too.”
