A PRISON van has burst into flames on the M62 this afternoon, causing traffic chaos.
Emergency services remain at the scene today, Friday, on the eastbound motorway between junction nine at Winwick and junction 10 at the Croft Interchange.
Fire crews were called to the scene shortly before 1pm.
The motorway was shut while firefighters tackled the blaze, which has now been extinguished.
Police have confirmed that all occupants have been accounted for, with one lane of the M62 now reopened.
