ORGANISERS of the first Rainford 10K hailed it a success after 348 people tackled the village course.
The event was staged in memory of George Faulkner, a 17-year-old ex-Rainford schoolboy who died after colliding with a car while crossing the East Lancs Road five years ago.
His parents, Sue and John, and brother, Bob, were among the field of runners who enjoyed the bright autumn sunshine on Sunday morning, travelling through roads and fields of the village.
Another 140 fun runners took part in a one-kilometre run which added to the day’s community atmosphere.
Terry Bates, whose fitness company BeUrBest organised the run, said: “The support from the people of Rainford was tremendous, with cheering and encouragement along the route and around the high school.
“It was a really good turnout for the first one, and hopefully it will grow year on year.
“The caretaker, staff and students all gave up their valuable time to help with marshalling, traffic direction and on site.”
The event raised funds for charities Help for Heroes and road safety group Brake.
North east runner Darryl Davidson was first across the line in 35mins 35secs to claim the George Faulkner Memorial Trophy.
